Jazz
A work of 6 years, 75 interviews, more than 500 pieces of music, 2,400 stills and over 2,000 archival film clips... Jazz is a ten-part epic documentary that follows the most American of art forms, from its origins in blues and ragtime through swing, bebop and fusion, from the gritty streets of New Orleans to the Lincoln Gardens on Chicago's Southside, from Prohibition-era speakeasies to the wide-open clubs of Kansas City, from the elegant Roseland Ballroom in Times Square to the more egalitarian Savoy Ballroom in Harlem... It is a journey across an American landscape divided by war, segregated by race, and united through swing and dance. Ken Burns explores in detail the culture, politics and dreams that gave birth to this most integral part of American history and life.
