Janos Starker
Janos Starker describes himself as "the man whose inner flame freezes the air around him"... For him, evidently, there is elegance in rigor and lack of ornamentation. A teacher and performer, he allows nothing to escape his vigilance : the position of the body, respiration, the rightness of movements and sound. With Starker and the cello what predominates is the purity of sound, the economy of means, the difficult osmosis with a rebel instrument. His commitment to teaching which he considers a quasi-sacred mission is the key to his philosophy and his vision of music. In more than sixty years of activity, Janos Starker has created a style, a code of ethics, a genuine school for the cello.
