Île de PâquesEaster Island
Unlike the adventurers, travellers, slave traders, explorers, ethnologists, missionaries and other film directors, I did not discover Easter Island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean... but in Paris, at the foot of the Tour Montparnasse. I discovered the mysterious "Rapa Nui" through the spellbinding encounter with one of its inhabitants. It was a meeting that was to culminate in a doubly enchanting love affair... and the burning desire to film the most isolated island in the world. For over two weeks, camera in hand, I covered the arid and strange, sometimes hostile, extraordinary landscapes of this volcanic rock that either seduces you immediately or rebuts you forever. (...)In the end, my "journey" proved to be more of an initiation than expected... Jean-François Giré
