A rounded portrait of Cesare Zavattini which puts the various genres adopted by the author in his fifty years of literature and forty of cinema on the same level. Zavattini worked with the contradictions and originality of his own personality, with that curiosity and eagerness to learn that always drove him. Above all, the film emphasizes how such a many-sided personality as Zavattini's, such a wide-ranging and productive activity over time cannot be reduced to conventional situations and models, cannot be contained within one specific genre, but must be viewed while tracing the often impracticable paths of the interdependent and interdisciplinary nature of different artistic genres that Zavattini tackled with a critical spirit and with originality.
