I Was the Cigarette Girl

Aine is desperate to be noticed by her hero and, at the tender age of 16, resorts to measures she believes will win Tim's heart : buying him cigarettes out of her school money, selling his affected poetry to tourists and advertising his egotistical play around town. Like an eager puppy, she also follows him to parties and pubs, where she unashamedly fawns over him. Tim, however, doesn't even know her name and has no desire to find out. His already inflated ego enjoys her attention, but not when he is in the company of his peers. I Was the Cigarette Girl is the comic and cruel story of a lovestruck teenager and the self obsessed object of her affections.
