I Tigerens øje

The Eye of the Tiger

In Nepal, enslavement for debt starts in a complex caste system which categorizes people according to their degree of "untouchability". The problem extends across the country, from the fertile plains to the Himalayas. This film takes us into the Tharu community, one of the victims of this system. It also describes the work of the NGO, "BASE" (Backward Society Educational Organization) whose main work concerns the slave debts of farm workers or "Kamaiyas", the elimination of illiteracy among the adult women and health programs. This work is exemplified in the double portrait of a Danish woman, Inge Sagild, and a Tharu woman, Dilli Chaudhary.
