Francisco Coloane
Francisco Coloane is Chilean. He is one of the most popular writers in the Spanish language. Coloane was eleven when his father died. His family then moved from the island of Chiloe to Punta Arenas, capital of Patagonia. The journey provides the framework for this portrait of the writer. The multitude of islands, natural canals, gulfs and fjords reflect the central themes of Coloane's writings : nature in all its forms, wind, sea and ice, and the deep solitude of his characters, forever confronted with the violence of these natural elements.
