Edderkoppen
A romantic thriller in 6 parts. Copenhagen, 1949. Denmark still suffers from shortages and the more or less shady commercial transactions of the Occupation. The city gangsters and black marketeers have the time of their lives. The country also suffers from a moral hangover after a time without a police force, and the temporary Crisis Police does not engender much respect among the population as a whole. The central figure in The Spider is Bjarne Madsen, an idealistic young journalist desperate to tell his readers some really important truths about the corruption that is going on. When Bjarne receives a tip-off about organized crime and black marketeering on a grand scale, he decides to unravel the threads of the extensive network and work his way to the "Spider" himself. Vissing, a highly esteemed crime reporter, tries to dissuade him, but Bjarne is fearless - even when it transpires that there may be links from the Copenhagen underworld leading to the top echelons of the police force... The Spider follows Bjarne and Vissing's investigation in post-war Copenhagen which prepares to enter the more orderly 1950s.
