Brittany. August 5, 1944. On this tragic day, the fate of male nurse Jean Palu, a man like any other, is to be sealed against the outside wall of a house in his native village. For seven hours, in the presence of seven fellow citizens chosen at random, he must wait for death at the hand of routed German soldiers. As the clock on the church marks the hours, Jean plays back in his mind the episodes of a life marked by sickness, failure and heartbreak.
