A 9-year-old refugee girl from Kosovo, left speechless and in a state of permanent despair by the terrible experiences of her short life, is taken to a hospital. Robert, the physician in charge of the clinic, decides on the spur of the moment to take the girl into his own home. In doing so, he not only acts against the advice of the authorities but the feelings of his own wife Luisa. Reconciled to her childless condition only after years of suffering from it, the sudden appeareance of this young girl opens up Luisa’s old wounds. Eventually however all reservations vanish in the face of this hopeless child and her great need to reacquire some faith in the world and her future. In very little time, the threesome becomes a little family. Until one day when Luisa suddenly discovers the child’s real mother and is faced with the hardest decision of her life.
