In Cittadella, a village between Padua and Treviso, a cluster of outsiders in the prime of life meet daily at the Café Central to play cards. There's Lidio, a young single father in love with freedom; Wilma, the lovely, lascivious policewoman in love with Lidio; Lidio's friend, Armando, who lusts after Wilma; Jessich, a headstrong poker player; debt-ridden Busetto, a gravedigger, a woman lawyer, a prostitute, and many other originals... A particularly animated poker game and a winning lottery ticket suddenly turn this little world on its head and provoke an endless series of misunderstandings, swindles, cravings, lies and divisions in Cittadella which suddenly finds itself in the media spotlight... A Venitian comedy in two parts which dramatizes the gambling fever that has swept over Italy.
