Claude Olievenstein
Claude Olievenstein is an eyewitness to his age. Reputed for his role in all the drug battles - the liberalization of soft drugs, the syringe exchange program, decriminalization, substitute treatments -, he has participated in all the political debates and supported a good number of social movements and dissident causes. In 2001, at age 68, Olievenstein will retire and Marmottan, the only medical centre for drug addicts, which he inaugurated in 1971, will celebrate its 30th anniversary. Unlike many post-1968 initiatives which have not stood the test of time, Marmottan continues to fulfill its initial objectives.
