Christie's Story

In December 1997, 24 year-old Christie Martin weighed over 232 kg. Warned by doctors that she would not survive another year at that weight, she underwent a radical stomach bypass operation. Since then, Christie has been transformed, mentally and physically. At 73 kg, she is now down to less than a third of her original body weight. This documentary follows Christie's moving personal story from her life-threatening operation, through her painful rehabilitation and slow adjustment to a new body - and a new life. Today she is free - free of a mockery of a marriage and the constraints of a 232 kg body. She is young, attractive and in full-time employment - but, as she has discovered herself, weight is often a symptom of much larger problems. Unhappiness cannot be cut away with a scalpel.
