Chienne de vieA Dog's Life
Animals are rarely the protagonists of a documentary, except in wildlife films (...). This time, I want to modify the roles and tell animal stories that also deal with human beings. I spent three months in the largest animal refuge of the SPA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) in Gennevilliers. There I filmed dogs not as simple numbers, but as "individuals". I wanted to follow their lives, beginning with the circumstances of their arrival at Gennevilliers, and right up to the time they left. In between, I filmed their stay in this refuge where they all literally risked their skins. Via these overlapping animal lives, each tells a story of separation and desertion, as well as reunion and encounter. It is a story that involves the entire range of our emotions, our perceptions and our cowardice. Jean-Christophe Rosé
