Célébrations
Junichi Ushiyama, famous Japanese filmmaker and ethnologist, compiled a unique collection of portraits, customs and rituals of the most isolated peoples. Shot between 1971 and 1990, this series of 65 documentaries have been remastered and regrouped by Docstar under a umbrella title : Celebrations. Korean children married off after their death; the mysterious practices of traditional Japanese tattooing; an unusual burial on the Himalayan heights; the daily life of the Papuans 100 feet above the ground; elephant hunting among the Pygmies; gastronomy according to the Asmats... These are only a few of the highlights in a series of which six are proposed. Many of these traditions had never been filmed until now. Some will never be filmed again...
