Cannes et l'Histoire
This film parallels the world of entertainment and historical reality : the battle of Diên Biên Phu, the Algerian war, the events of May 68, the election of François Mitterrand, the affair of the clandestine immigrants, the Carpentras cemetery desecration affair... What influence did these political events have on the Cannes Film Festival ? Its organizers, Pierre Viot - President - and Gilles Jacob - Artistic Director -, Gabriel Albiccoco - founder of the Directors' Fortnight -, Jean Roy - head of the International Critics' Week -, as well as Culture minister Jack Lang, historian Pierre Miquel, and filmmakers such as Claude Miller, Richard Dembo, Yves Boisset, air their respective points of view. Archival footage is posited against the festive universe of Cannes, giving rise to a debate involving diverse opinions.
