Benny Moré, le barbare du rythme
Benny Moré is one of those artists who instinctively knew how to synthesize the elements of his people's culture and give them an historical continuity. He was the symbol of Cuban folklore and the return to the roots of popular Cuban music (that Cuban "sound" to which he would devote the last part of his career, after moving back to Havana for good). His death was a great loss to the Cuban people, who gave him a national funeral worthy of funerals usually reserved for big Hollywood stars... In Cuba, musicians of every generation know, perform and sing the melodies of Benny Moré. Or have recorded an entire record in homage to the "barbarian of rhythm"...
