Anticosti au temps des Menier
In 1895, Henri Menier, a rich industrialist who made his fortune in chocolate, dreamed of a wholly eccentric undertaking : to buy an island larger than Corsica, in northern Canada, and build an ideal society on it. Working out a communal system with its own laws, Menier had a village built on the island of Anticosti, complete with hospital, school and stores... He peopled this almost deserted island with new colonists. This is the story of the passion and madness of these industrials, pioneers, scientists and explorers, at the turn of the last century, who, in the midst of the industrial revolution, entertained dreams of a New Babylon.
