Amchis, les oubliés de l'HimalayaAmchis, the Forgotten Healers of the Himalayas
Zanskar is a valley in the Indian Himalayas, 12,000 feet above sea level. Traditionally, each village has a Tibetan physician called the "amchi". The handing down of knowledge has always been from father to son and from master to student. But for some years now, with the building of a road, the valley has come into contact with the outside world, and the younger generation has been turning its back on ancestral knowledge for more lucrative pursuits. The forgotten ones of the Himalayas may be the last to practice Tibetan medicine as it has always been in Zanskar.
