A House Divided

A House Divided is based on the true story of Amanda America Dickson, a woman of mixed heritage who is the daughter of David Dickson, a wealthy plantation owner, and his slave Julia. Born with fair skin, Amanda has been raised and educated as if she were white by her devoted father and grandmother in antebellum Georgia. She grew up in privileged circumstances, unaware that Julia, whom Dickson had raped, was her mother. Amanda believed her mother had died during childbirth. The film tells the story of a woman who became the largest land owner in the United States and the wealthiest black person in the state of Georgia.
