Un jour, je serai moiOne Day, I'll Be Me
In Trininad, the shantytowns of the capital are filled with wandering teenagers, many as young as 13, rejected by a highly selective school system left by the British. Twenty years ago, anger degenerated into riots. Gérard Pantin, a priest and teacher who was moved by these events, went out to the residents and the youngsters of these shantytowns. It was the first phase in an educational initiative based on receptivity, respect and commitment. Concerned by their lack of self-confidence and their violent behavior, he set up a program to teach them to know themselves, to understand their anger, to communicate with words rather than their fists... Today, more than 3,000 youngsters find their way each year into a SERVOL center. This film deals with the lives of five such teenagers. It shows how each has worked to find a place in society and also to improve themselves, an initiative knowingly encouraged by their teachers.
