Traître ou Patriote
How can one disappear from the collective memory when one has been Prime Minister of Quebec from 1939 to 1944? This is precisely what befell Adélard Godbout, great-uncle of Jacques Godbout. Godbout uses the historic destiny of his childhood hero to raise some disturbing questions about the collective memory and Quebecois nationalism, questions that cannot be ignored. The story of Adélard Godbout is especially disquieting - this man was the herald of the Quiet Revolution, the man who gave Quebec mandatory education and women the vote, Hydro-Quebec and labor laws, but who also, as a Christian and humanist, was in favor of the war against Nazi barbarism.
