Trahison sur commandes
This is a chronicle of the death of the ACH, the shipyards of Le Havre. It is a story of the humiliation of thousands of workers who, for the past four years, have been involved in the dead-end labyrinth of an impossible commission. The film reveals the paradox of an inverted shipwreck, where a social entity dies the day of a ship's launching. It is also the story of a sacrilege: that of a ship launching without a christening ceremony, in contempt of nautical tradition. The making of this documentary, using the estheticism of a navy yard's industrial wasteland, conveys the death rattle of these shipyards. The rusting hull is the paradoxical symbol of the workers' self-destruction. In its holds, the camera shows us these men in their overalls-cum-strait jackets. As in all tales of shipwreck, the end is clear from the start of the documentary. Which makes it even more horrible.
