Stories in the Miao Village
The Qingshui River, a branch of the Yangtze, runs through Taijiang County, southeast of the Guizhou Province. The dozens of villages that line the river are inhabited by the descendants of Chiyon, a legendary tribe of ancient China. Today they are called the Miaos. They still preserve their traditional life style, farming, weaving, dyeing, embroidery, and silversmithery. Has social progress brought any changes to their ancestral life style? We get some answers from Zhang Tingzhen, a Miao woman, who makes traditional embroidered products with the women of Lingyan village.
