Sfinx - Huem er du ?Sphinx - Who Are You?
Who, in fact, was Henrik Ibsen? Who lurked behind the mask he presented to the world and which, in his later years, was to earn him the nickname of "the Sphinx"? Ibsen was a man who probed human hearts and minds in such a way as to prompt Freud to create a typology based on the dramatist's principal characters. How, then, could such a man fail to analyze his own personality, how could he permit himself to live with his dual nature without trying to reconcile his contradictions? Sphinx - Who Are You? quotes from Ibsen's writings in order to illustrate the connection between his life and work, and also his very detailed instructions for the performance of his contemporary dramas. We follow the playwright from his birth in Norway to Italy, where he wrote "Peer Gynt" and "A Doll's House", to Rome, Stockholm, the Suez Canal, Munich and the Tyrol, where "The Wild Duck" was born, until his death in 1906.
