Sade en procès
Sade spent a third of his life in prison. In six tableaux, the filmmakers dramatize the various accusations against Sade and his work. The trial at the Aix-en-Provence parliament in 1778, the obscenity trial of publisher Jean-Jacques Pauvert in 1956, the imaginary debate between Sainte-Beuve and Jules Janin in 1843. Maurice Garçon, Sade's attorney, not only presents legal arguments in his client's defense, but he also serves as the link between tableaux and introduces the main characters.
