Réfugiés de la faim

Refugees of Hunger

Refugees of Hunger was shot in Sierra Leone, during the summer of 1999, after the signing of the peace agreement in Lomé between the government and the rebels of the Revolutionary United Front (RUF). The agreement gave people hope that the civil war, which has been destroying the country for the last nine years, had come to an end. This film gives a voice not to the warlords, but rather to those who have suffered at their hands. The civilian population, more than half of which was displaced, was the real victim of this war. They were subjected to privation, summary executions, amputations... In this country, the average life expectancy is less than 35 years and two thirds of the population lives in absolute poverty. This documentary also tells the story of those who assist these people and prevent them from being totally abandoned. Volunteers from Action against Hunger have witnessed the plight of these victims, and have fought against the threat of starvation since 1991.
