Pelléas et Mélisande
This five-act opera was performed in 1999 at the Théâtre Impérial of Compiègne in its initial version (1893-1895) for piano (soloist: Pascal Le Corre), in a production staged by Pierre Jourdan. In the forest, Golaud comes across a young girl, Mélisande, weeping by a spring. He weds her and takes her home to the castle of Allemonde. While in the company of her brother-in-law Pelléas, Mélisande plays with her wedding ring on the rim of a well — the ring falls in the water... One hot summer eve, Mélisande is combing her long tresses from her terrace. Below, Pelléas entwines himself in her hair. Golaud surprises them...
