Mosaïques et Beethoven
Early in 1995, while shooting a film about Christophe Coin, I had the chance of a lifetime: the Mosaïques Quartet, with whom Coin played the cello, was going to begin work on Beethoven's last quartets and was about to begin with No. 14 opus 131. I persuaded them to let me attend (with cameras and microphones) this first approach (...) Later, I was able to film a few run-throughs of the piece, which they considered phases in their progress. But, in fact, one pledge remained tacit: when this quartet joined their repertoire, when they felt ready to program it, then and only then, could I film them and faithfully record their performance. This has now been done, four years after the first run-through, at the manor of La Borie, the home of the Ensemble Baroque of Limoges. Hugo Santiago
