The time is the 1950s, in rural Denmark. The source of the series is Stillebaekken, a river that bisects the landscape as it flows past the most thriving farm, the beautiful Dale castle, the old water mill and the biggest company in the parish. Just as the river unites the area, the people who live and work here are united in a shared destiny that nobody could have dreamed or escaped. Love and despair, fidelity and deceit, hope and revenge, conspiracy and family feuds, confronting the lies of the past and the hopes of a new age...
