A dreary landscape of pebbles and rocks stretching away toward the mountains in the distance. In this immense wasteland, a musician in evening dress sits on a chair with a black gloss finish playing the overture of an oratorio on an oboe. The melody mingles with the wind blowing through the short grass. Filmed in the grandiose natural landscapes of the Lozère and the Gard regions of southern France, these "lessons of the shadows", an oratorio for modern times, rejuvenate an Old Testament text which contains strange echoes of our own late millennium tragedies. This is the film of a concert given in various natural locations, where soloists, choristers and musicians resemble actors, but actors who are resolutely musicians in their evening dress, and who enact a scenario that we commonly call: MUSIC.
