Les Jeunes Premiers d'hier et d'aujourd'hui
Since its birth, the cinema has embodied the audience's desire for social status. Why should we be surprised when actors become cult figures, when the private lives of stars are the stuff of moviegoers' dreams? We mimic their looks, wear our hair and clothing like them. The leading man is the narcissistic mirror of the man in the street. How - when one is Montand, Belmondo or Delon - does one avoid one's reflection, magnified by the adoring public? Each has his method, tried and tested over the years. Inspired by François Chalais' sympathetic, ironic portraits of new or confirmed actors between 1955 and 1968, the filmmakers asked several of them to talk about their debut.
