Les Hirondelles d'hiver
Swallows of Winter
At the dawn of the 20th century, in the poor regions of the French, Swiss or Italian Alps, children were still being hired out to do menial work. In the slow season, they would roam the face of Europe, working as chimney sweepers, playing music or simply begging. Known as the "Swallows of Winter", they would sing their songs in a mixture of French, German and Savoyard dialects. Swallows of Winter examines the life of these children thrown into a harsh adult world, and takes a look at the rites and customs of the secret societies and guilds of time.
