Les Documenteurs des années noires
June 1940. France is cut in two by a line of demarcation. The routed French government moves to Vichy. While Marshal Pétain works out the guidelines of his National Revolution ("Work, Family, Homeland"), the General Secretary for Information sees to their dissemination through film... But once the Unoccupied Zone is occupied, the organization of propaganda films becomes the responsibility of the Propaganda Abteilung and the German Embassy in Paris... For the author, Jean-Pierre Bertin-Maghit: "In the past two years, my historical research took me to the CNC Film Archives at Bois d'Arcy to view some 200 rare documentaries shot on nitrate film stock and dating from the Occupation. They were being restored. They had to be identified, then analyzed. I found them extremely interesting and worth being brought to the attention of the public in the form of a compilation documentary of some 30 significant excerpts."
