Les Aventures scandaleuses de Mimi Papandréou

In 1995, the front pages of the Greek press were splattered with highly suggestive photos of Dimitra Papandreou, the wife of the "Greek Mitterrand," then Prime Minister. It was the beginning of a political-sexual press scandal that has continued to grow since Papandreou's death in June 1996. The coverage of "Monicagate" in the American press looks like good-hearted teasing next to the violence and coarseness of the attacks in Greece on "Mimi Porno," the nickname given to the scandalous widow by the newspaper Avriani. A young airline stewardess, a buxom, sizzling blond, she was never forgiven for having taken the place of the aging, feminist wife of the patriarch of Greek socialism. In this inquiry, the protagonists of the scandal speak without reservations to the camera. This is a sickening look at the cynicism to be found in a certain kind of journalism... in which only the victim of the scandal comes out virtually unscathed.
