Le Prince est de retourThe Prince is Back
Since 1198, the Meshchersky dynasty had ruled over Alabino, a charming village some 30 miles from Moscow. The revolution of 1917 changed their destiny and dispersed the family. Upon his return from the Ukraine in October 1997, Prince Eugene Meshchersky found a ruin covered with garbage cans and used as shelter by the tramps. His aim : to rebuild the property of his ancestors and become part of the village of Alabino. Eugene Meshchersky looks nothing like a prince. From morning to night, he works with shovel, hammer and trowel to make the vast property habitable again. The film follows Eugene Meshchersky's legal battle with the Russian administration to retrieve his land and fulfill his dream. By recording the prince's relations with his father, his wife, his children, his friends and the villagers, Marina Goldovskaya creates a metaphorical portrait of the Russia House and its shattered dreams.
