In the spring of 1998, William Karel was granted permission to film the preparations for the evening news on channel France 2. The experience came to a sudden end when, after only 24 hours, the indiscreet filmmaker was sent packing. A year later, a new team took over the France 2 news desk and the film was resumed. The camera was admitted to the "bottle," the conference room, usually off-limits to outsiders. This is where, twice a day, the news team meets to decide which stories are to be treated for the evening report. These editorial conferences, lively or relaxed, are punctuated by several incursions into the room where agency images are received. William Karel also filmed two camera teams at work...
