Lagen i Laredo
Laredo and the Law relates the extraordinary story of Miguel Martinez, a young man who has been on death row in a Texas prison for the past seven years . In 1991, at the age of 17, Martinez was present at the brutal murder of three men. His friend, Miguel Venegas, was the ostensible killer. But he was only 16 and thus, was not of age to be tried for his act. In Texas, where public opinion is largely for the death penalty, a scapegoat had to be found: Miguel Martinez was the ideal candidate; he was sentenced to death. In this documentary, Martinez files an appeal and asks for a new trial. But it seems unlikely that he will get a second chance… That’s the law in Laredo, Texas, 1999.
