This film was based upon Giovanni Battista Pergolesi’s "La Serva Padrona" composed in 1733. "La Serva Padrona" came to be a landmark in opera’s history, due to the great success achieved in France in 1752. Though it is an intermezzo, because of its ingenious and comic libretto, nowadays "La Serva Padrona" is performed as a main opera. It is about the story of Serpina, a maid raisen by Uberto since she was a little child. As she becomes an adult, she fells in love with him and having Vespone as her accomplice, she sets a thousand tricks to get Uberto to marry her.
