Agriculture has less and less to do with farmers. A handful of multinationals are gearing up to feed the planet by dictating what goes on our plates. By sidestepping competition, they have virtually monopolized the market. What used to be known as farming has developped into agrobusiness. Beef Inc. is an investigative documentary that gives a voice to the small producers who are trying to organize for their survival, and to specialists, in the cattle industry, who paint a somber picture of the situation. They need to convince a powerful ally : the consumer. People will vote with their dollars. They can boycott an inferior product. If they don't, a good steak might soon be a thing of the past.
