Kabylie pays des amazighs
Among the democratic claims of Algerians, the most essential is the demand for the pluralism of identity. If the state, since the Independence, has decreed that Algeria is Arabic and Muslim, because it is no longer French, the population knows that other cultures and religions coexist: the Berber, French, Christian, Jewish, and secular traditions. Today, the Kabyles are the most vocal for the recognition of their language and culture, alongside others, democrats and women, who are fighting for the right to be different and against an imposed legal status. This film, based on newsreels and archive footage, is about the combats of the past 30 years in the face of autocratic power and Islamic violence.
