John Maynard Keynes ou le capitalisme sous anti-dépresseurs
War, crisis, war: our modern world was forged during the first half of the 20th century in the course of ordeals which, on three separate moments in history, suggested that capitalism was on its last legs: the Bolshevik Revolution in the face of the bloodless Europe of 1918, the Depression of the 30s, and the rise of Nazi totalitarianism. The force and modernity of Keynes' message reside in his original reformist response during these three tragic periods, which argued for dynamic public intervention in an assisted capitalism turned towards popular consumption. This documentary attempts to explain the basics of Keynes' philosophy, both in its most dated and most topical aspects. It maps out the background to his life, thought and work, to get to the basic orientations and complexities that lay beneath the ambivalence and naiveté he was so often taken to task for.
