Il Sole buio

The Dark Sun The Dark Sun The Dark Sun

Africa is in the midst of an AIDS crisis. 11 million victims to date - three million of them children. In 1998, youngsters who fell victim to the new plague of the 20th century totaled some two million: more than the number of children killed in war. Worse: statistics show that roughly seven million children have been orphaned because of the AIDS-related deaths of their parents. This documentary was filmed in 1999 in Kenya and Uganda. In Kenya, the cameras entered Korogocho, a slum virtually built in the Nairobi city dump: a living hell from a medical point of view, where the inhabitants live by scavenging through the garbage. Uganda holds the grim record for AIDS orphans: some 800,000 children. In northern Uganda, children must fight against two enemies: AIDS and a war, which has been raging for the past 10 years.
