Histoire d'une transmission

This film deals with a collaboration between the dance company formed by Dominique Bagouet - a choreographer who died of AIDS at 41 - and the Paris Opera Ballet. Marie-Hélène Rebois observed this encounter of two worlds, classical dance and modern dance, recording on film all that is impalpable and stimulating in the act of handing something down. The film captures the essence of a highly rigorous enterprise, where each gesture is inspired by the dancers' sensorial memories. Rarely have we been witness to such a passing on of choreographic language. And yet, this film goes beyond the strict framework of dance to touch on the more universal question of the sharing of an art in order to enrich it. Beyond the artistic endeavor, the workings of memory are indispensable if it is to remain alive.
