Heimatfront - Kriegsalltag in Deutschland
What are the effects of war on a family? The absence of loved ones, the fear in the air-raid shelters, the disrupted childhoods, the all-too-brief leaves from the front, the omnipresence of death. War, in the first place, means taking leave of husbands, fiancés, brothers and sons as they depart for the front. The women find themselves alone to deal with daily life, look after the children and the housekeeping, and also to work in factories, shops, offices and fields. At first, there is the hope of a rapid victory, buoyed by the propaganda newsreels. But later, after the first military defeats, the German women begin to live with fear in pit of their stomach, impatiently awaiting letters from their menfolk. Heimatfront is a documentary series in six parts.
