Frida - en trotjänarinna
The story of Frida Nilsson is the story of a world of masters and servants much more typical of the past, but which nevertheless has survived. Frida was only 12 when she entered domestic service. In 1954, she became a housemaid in a fashionable home in the Swedish capital. Her employer, a doctor who was widowed in 1976. In 1993, the doctor celebrated his 100th birthday. Frida, 81 at the time, served his guests, and as everyone toasted the doctor, Frida raised her glass, too, alone in the kitchen. In 1998, the doctor died, aged 104. Frida, now 86, moved to a retirement home with her bed and dresser, the only items she was allowed to take with her.
