Francis Ponge
When Jean Thibaudeau asked me to go with him to Chambon-sur-Lignon, taking the road that Francis Ponge had himself charted, he probably had in mind a film of mine which he had admired, Le Temps détruit. This time, it was to "regain the time" of a dead friend. Following in his footsteps, and those of Christian Rist, another of Ponge's friends, I filmed the places the poet himself had known, in order to convey his unique way of looking at the world. In my conception, the film is not a pilgrimage or a memorial — Ponge probably wouldn't have liked that — but a method that allows us to see and hear a small portion of this artist's work, so inseparable from the man. Too, I wanted to make the audience share the emotions of my two guides, discovering "the country" of the man who was their friend. Pierre Beuchot
