Exodus of De Wereld van Vina
Vina is a five-year-old Kurdish girl with blond hair - she was born in Sweden. She travels with her father to northern Iraq to visit her grandparents and help her uncle escape to Europe. It's not a simple journey. First, her father - a peshmerga opponent of Saddam Hussein before becoming a refugee - must get to Brussels to buy a Mercedes. This is what most Kurds do before they go back. They buy a car for the journey and sell it once they arrive. The small profit goes to the family. Father and daughter drive to Italy where they take the boat for Turkey. They enter northern Iraq with great difficulty. The atmosphere there is tense. There is an undeclared civil war among Kurds and America is threatening to bomb Baghdad again. Vina sees her grandparents but her uncle's escape has to be delayed. This film is a journey into the heart of migration. It describes a world in which refugees are not adventurous but afraid to depart.
