El General López Contreras : la transición
To many the name of Eleazar López Contreras means little. López belongs to the recent history of Venezuela, about which little has been said and much remains to be discovered. The subject of this documentary is “the man of transition”, who served as the nation’s president after the death of Juan Vincente Gómez, “the man of evolution, not revolution,” as he liked to define himself. The film retraces the life and work of a president who, owing to his great talents as a negotiator, led his country peacefully through one of the most critical periods of its history. The making of this film required two-and-a-half years of research. It draws on rarely-seen archival films of the 30s and eyewitness accounts of contemporaries.
