Des marelles et des petites filles...Of Hopscotch and Little Girls...
All over the world, little girls draw frequently similar figures on the ground. Then, singing nursery rhymes and naive songs, they skip over these symbols, which are supposed to get them to heaven. Little girls everywhere play hopscotch, dream and sing. But, too often, adults rob them of their childhood, acting out of poverty, stupidity, spite, perversity, ignorance, superstition. In India, Thailand, Yemen, Peru, Burkina Faso and Haiti, little girls from eight to fourteen, both frail and strong, are all lovely. Sometimes thoughtful, sometimes mischievous, but always full of hope, they imagine a better future for their children... for all children everywhere. But both in the rich countries and in the developing nations, there are thousands of identical cases, worse even, which repeat themselves. This film only shows a fraction of the reality. We are barely beginning to grasp the scope of the discrimination to which little girls are victim.
